Smoking – causes wrinkles and lines
Posted Under: Quit Smoking
The phrase “Smokers Face” was added to the Medical Dictionary in 1985. It is used when talking about the characteristics of lines and wrinkles surrounding the lips and eyes – it also encapsulates the general signs associated with aging, which are made worse by smoking.
Despite the media attention and the millions of dollars every year spent on cosmetics and wrinkle removers, many millions more are spent on the single worst habit to exagerate the problem and make dealing with it worse.
Within the medical community and now the population in general, it is accepted that any type of smoking, whether cigarettes, cigars or other, impacts heavily on our health in a negative way However it also directly impacts our skins appearance and through the release of free radicals.
These “imbalanced particles” react with our skin by damaging perfectly healthy cells in the outermost epidermis layer. The damge they inflict on the skin gets greater over time and as a person ages, the combined affect can be significant.
Not only do free radicals which are found in every puff of smoke which affect our appearance. Smoking just one cigarette depletes our Vitamin C levels stored within the body. This essential vitamin is directly involved in the creation of collagen which is a vital component of great looking skin.
Whatsmore, Vitamin C acts as a powerful anti-oxidant which assist massively in reducing the effect of free radicals. So not only does the skin lose its ability to renew itself, it also loses a powerful defense against damage in the first instance.
One of the best methods, therefore, of avoiding premature wrinkles is to stop smoking and reduce your exposure to smoky environments. Of course, there are many other important factors which make the stopping of smoking a great boost to your health and general wellbeing. It is of course a better idea not to take it up in the first place!
